How We Can Make Your Life Easier When Moving

A&A Professional Movers LLC has many years of experience in the moving industry so here are a few great suggestions that will make the notoriously nerve-wracking day much easier on everyone involved.

In this post, you’ll learn the best strategies to guarantee an efficient move.

Moving Preparation Tips:

Tip 1: Make A Moving List and a Budget

The best way to start your move is to start a few weeks ahead with a list.

If you have a diagram of the layout of your house, it will make crafting the list much easier; otherwise, walking through your home and jotting everything down will suffice. If you have the layout, we recommend color-coordinating by room. This will become clear later.

Listing everything you need to move will make it easier to determine what you need and what you don’t need.

The next thing to write down is your budget. Knowing what you want to spend from the outset will help you make decisions along the way, such as whether to hire a professional mover.

Tip 2: Consider Hiring Moving Experts

We really recommend it. And not just because we are movers ourselves.

In our experience, we have been hired well in advance of people moving, and we’ve been hired last minute in reluctance because the client realized it was too much to handle on their own.

Of course, there are many factors. Maybe if you don’t have too much stuff and you have great access to a big enough vehicle, you’d be fine. However, if you’re moving your home, you’d be better off hiring a pro to help you—it’ll save you a few gray hairs.

If you’re worried about the price, you’re truly paying for efficiency and the ability to relax on moving day.

Tip 3: Send Your Notices Before You Move!

This is one that almost everyone forgets about!

Make your move easy on yourself by transferring your electrical, your energy, internet, etc., before you move into the new place. It will be a serious pain in the neck if you have to set it up after moving in.

Packaging Tips:

Tip 1: De-Clutter

Now that you have prepared to start moving, the first thing to do is de-clutter. Go around your house, carefully through every room, and determine what you need to bring and what you don’t.

For many people, getting rid of possessions can be a difficult thing to do. Trust us, though, you should only bring the things you need otherwise, you will have many more boxes to move.

Only bring the essentials. Do that if it takes going through your home and throwing the extras into a garbage bag. Of course, it can be difficult to get rid of certain things, but you won’t remember them once they’re gone because everything you’ll have leftover will be ‘essential.’

Tip 2: Pack At Least 1hr a Day Leading Up to Moving Day

This tip is for sheer practicality.

Leaving all your packing to the last few days before the move never works well. In our estimation, for the few weeks leading up to your moving day, budget one hour of packing per day. Follow the list you made when you started preparing, go room by room, leaving the things you use most for last.

If you pack for one hour per day, it will lighten your stress-load immensely. This way, you can pack carefully instead of frantically. You can label your boxes and rest easy knowing everything is packed soundly.

Tip 3: Make an Essentials Box

Don’t mix your essentials with everything else.

Essentials will mean something different for everyone, but we are not talking about books in this case. Essentials could mean medications or cleaning products, etc. But to narrow it down, consider your essentials tote the box you put everything you’ll need as soon as you get to the new place.

Tip 4: Color Coordinate!

Color coordinating by room will be your best bet. As you go through your rooms packing everything, all the boxes from your living room should be one color, the dining room another, etc. This will make things easier for all involved, especially if you hire movers.

Tip 5: Don’t Overpack Boxes

In short, don’t make your boxes too heavy. Remember that no matter what your boxes contain, they should be easy enough to carry up and down stairs, around corners, through doors, and in and out of vehicles without breaking anyone’s back.

Tip 6: Protect Breakables/Re-purpose Household Items and Clothing

Even though your boxes shouldn’t’ be overpacked, you should take extra caution to ensure that nothing moves around in them while they are being moved.

A great way to ensure your items stay safe, especially your breakable things, is to repurpose household items as protectants. Use towels, t-shirts, bedsheets, etc., to keep the items in your boxes safe and keep them from shifting around while in transit.

Tip 7: Label Disassembled Furniture

When you are taking your furniture apart, label each piece. You might think you’ll remember, but this will make things a lot easier for reassembly. If the furniture you are disassembling has screws and smaller pieces, make sure to put them in labeled bags.

Tip 8: Separate Hazardous Materials from Household Items

Hazardous materials like certain cleaning agents, fire extinguishers, etc., should not be mixed in with other items. While packing, ask yourself: if this spills will it ruin other things? If the answer is yes, you should separate it and place it in the hazardous pile.

Tip 9: Protect Your Kitchenware

Now that you’ve packed everything else, your moving day is coming up. Now that it is time to pack your kitchenware, you’ll want to ensure it is packed safely.

As moving professionals, we have all the necessary packing supplies to keep your delicates safe, so just contact us beforehand, and we will supply everything you need.

Otherwise, we recommend buying lots of bubble-wrap to keep everything secure and impact-resistant in their boxes.

Tip 10: Pack Jewelry and Valuables in Smaller Boxes

Your jewelry is very valuable and, thus, should not be mixed in with other boxes because it could get mixed up.

Pack all your jewelry in smaller boxes that you can bring with you, perhaps in your car, to the new place to ensure you know where your heirlooms are located.

A Few Final Tips for Packing

Now that we’ve told you almost everything, we know how to move efficiently with as little stress as possible. Here are a few final tips before we let you go on your own.

When labeling your boxes, mark the box with the color you’ve chosen for the room, and write a number on the box. However, note these markings on the sides of your boxes. Don’t write anything on top of boxes because the markings will be covered once the boxes are stacked.

Now that you know everything you need to know for an efficient moving day, we wish you good luck! But most of all, we look forward to your call.
