In our experience, we have been hired well in advance of people moving, and we’ve been hired last minute in reluctance because the client realized it was too much to handle on their own.
Of course, there are many factors. Maybe if you don’t have too much stuff and you have great access to a big enough vehicle, you’d be fine. However, if you’re moving your home, you’d be better off hiring a pro to help you—it’ll save you a few gray hairs.

Tip 3: Send Your Notices Before You Move!

Leaving all your packing to the last few days before the move never works well. In our estimation, for the few weeks leading up to your moving day, budget one hour of packing per day. Follow the list you made when you started preparing, go room by room, leaving the things you use most for last.
If you pack for one hour per day, it will lighten your stress-load immensely. This way, you can pack carefully instead of frantically. You can label your boxes and rest easy knowing everything is packed soundly.

In short, don’t make your boxes too heavy. Remember that no matter what your boxes contain, they should be easy enough to carry up and down stairs, around corners, through doors, and in and out of vehicles without breaking anyone’s back.

Even though your boxes shouldn’t’ be overpacked, you should take extra caution to ensure that nothing moves around in them while they are being moved.
A great way to ensure your items stay safe, especially your breakable things, is to repurpose household items as protectants. Use towels, t-shirts, bedsheets, etc., to keep the items in your boxes safe and keep them from shifting around while in transit.
Tip 7: Label Disassembled Furniture
When you are taking your furniture apart, label each piece. You might think you’ll remember, but this will make things a lot easier for reassembly. If the furniture you are disassembling has screws and smaller pieces, make sure to put them in labeled bags.
