Vaping has become a popular alternative to smoking, but for those new to the practice, it can be a bit overwhelming. With so many different devices, e-liquids, and terminology to learn, it can be difficult to know where to start. In this beginner’s guide to vaping, we’ll break down the basics to help you get started.

The basics

First, it’s important to understand the basic components of a vaping device. The main components of a vaping device include the battery, the coil, and the e-liquid. The battery powers the device, the coil heats the e-liquid to create the vapour, and the e-liquid provides the flavour and nicotine.

When choosing your first vaping device, it’s recommended to start with a basic setup such as a “cigalike” or “pod device”, this will be similar to a cigarette in size, shape, and the way it is used. These devices are simple to use and require minimal maintenance. As you get more comfortable with vaping and want to explore more options, you can move on to more advanced devices, such as “box mods” and “tanks” which offer more power and control over your vaping experience.

Choosing the right e-liquid

E-liquids come in a wide variety of flavours and nicotine concentrations. It’s important to choose an e-liquid with the right nicotine level for you. If you are trying to quit smoking, it’s recommended to start with a higher nicotine level and gradually decrease it over time. It’s also important to note that e-liquids come in different PG/VG ratios, PG stands for Propylene Glycol and VG for Vegetable Glycerin. PG is thinner and provides more of a “throat hit” similar to smoking, VG is thicker and provides more vapour.

We recommend that ex-smokers opt for the nicotine salts to replicate the exact nicotine hit as your traditional cigarettes. (Start at 20mg)

Priming your coil

When using your device, it’s important to follow the manufacturer’s instructions and to prime your coils before use. Priming your coils involves adding a few drops of e-liquid to the cotton inside the coil before you start vaping. Or if you are using a refillable pod simply fill the pod with e-liquid and allow 10-15 minutes for the e-liquid to soak into the coil. This helps to prevent dry hits and prolongs the life of your coils.

Maintenance of your device

Lastly, it’s important to maintain your device. This includes cleaning it regularly, replacing the coils when needed, and keeping it charged. It’s also important to store your e-liquid in a cool, dry place and to keep it out of reach of children and pets.

To summarise

Vaping can be a great alternative to smoking, but it’s important to do your research and start with a basic setup. By understanding the basics of vaping and following the manufacturer’s instructions, you’ll be on your way to a satisfying vaping experience.
