Sometimes life can get difficult and if you are not careful it can overwhelm you to the point where you are not functioning at your best.

The following list is not exhaustive, but it contains some of the more common warning signs that you need to seek professional help. If your mental health has been declining for over six months and these signs are present, you should make an appointment with a therapist as soon as possible.


A really common sign that you need a therapist is an inability to regulate your emotions. This can be triggered by anything from getting angry too easily to feeling like you’re on the verge of tears all the time.

It’s not as simple as trying to “snap out” of it, the problem persists and there doesn’t seem to be any end in sight. You might feel like your whole life has been turned upside down and you’re just feeling worn down and exhausted.

The fact that you may need professional help does not mean that you are weak. It takes a lot of courage and strength to admit that you need help.
