RIP IT UP AND START AGAIN? REASONS IT’S TIME TO GET RID OF YOUR CARPET

Have you been thinking about making a few upgrades to your home? Maybe your place is beginning to look a little dated and not in the ‘trendy back in fashion’ sort of way. Carpet is one of the biggest culprits of this old-style, dated look, holding what could otherwise be a clean and fresh space back. Maybe you’ve got 70s carpet all over the house, and it’s now time to rip it up.

Or, perhaps you are are looking for for a way to modernise the space. If you want to make a few upgrades to your home, ripping out the carpet is a good place to begin. Some people feel that the carpet adds a certain cosiness to an area. But here are a few signs that it’s time to get rid of the old carpet, and what you can replace it with.

Mould And Water Damage

Water damage is incredibly unsightly. If you have carpet in your bedroom, or there is a bathroom nearby, a leaking pipe, especially in multi-storey homes, can be detrimental in the long run. Ripping your carpet up and going for a tiled aesthetic will be a better swap. With mould and water damage, it can be very difficult to spot, especially if you have brown carpet. But if you still like the rustic aesthetic, you can go for timber look tiles, and retain that sense of earthiness.

Wear And Tear

The big problem with any carpet is that, after a while, wear and tear becomes a fact of life. Areas that are used constantly, such as by the front door, tend to suffer from worn patches and end up being frayed. It doesn’t take long for a carpet to look like this- it can take between 3 and 5 years. If you can’t bear to part with the carpets, going for vinyl flooring can be a cheaper option. Wear and tear is a sign of old age, and if you want something more durable, it’s time to rip up that carpet completely.

Are You Sneezing More Than Normal?

Allergies are more commonplace in houses that have carpets. Because of mites, dust pollen, and dirt hiding in carpets, no matter how much you clean the property, so many of these things will remain. The big problem in cleaning a carpet with such bigger is that it will start to cause wear, and can discolour. You can get your carpet cleaned professionally, or if you like the aesthetics, go for a thinner material.

As a carpet can age a property pretty quickly, it’s hardly surprising that people are making the decision to get rid of them completely. You may have even replaced the carpet recently, but it doesn’t seem to be living a long life span. This could be due to the padding underneath the carpet corner which can degrade.

And even if you’ve got the best-padded urethane, you are looking at around 25 years as a typical lifespan. If you’ve been living in the house for a long time, or it’s a property where you’ve not had the opportunity to rip it up and start again, look at these signs and see if it’s really time to get rid of your carpet and replace it with flooring.
