Dental Implants – A permanent solution for missing teeth!

Now patients who are missing teeth have a strong, beautiful alternative to bridges, partials, or full dentures. Dental implants will improve your smile and your lifestyle. They look, feel, and function like natural teeth because of a titanium anchor attached to the jawbone where teeth are missing. The bone bonds with the titanium, creating a strong foundation for artificial teeth.

Implants can also anchor bridges, partials, or full dentures to eliminate slipping.

With an implant, you can get natural looking teeth that perform like natural teeth and most of all you get your full smile and your confidence back.

Implants help with the preservation of facial structure and prevent bone deterioration which occurs when teeth are missing.

Did you know that studies have shown that your oral health can have a serious impact on your mental health? To sum up the data, poor oral health has actually been linked to poor mental health, which isn’t something anyone wants to have to deal with on a daily basis.

Because of this, improved mental health is one of many reasons to schedule routine dental visits each year. But maybe you’re so unhappy with your smile that you want to completely change the way your teeth look for the better.

That’s where dental implants come into play.

Dental implants are artificial teeth that are surgically implanted into your gums. They not only replace your teeth but your roots, too, reversing any longterm damage that you may be dealing with currently.

That’s not all dental implants are good for, though. There are quite a few more benefits of dental implants, including some you might not have thought of, all of which make the decision to get them that much easier.

So if you are curious to know what dental implants are all about, and how they can change your life, you’ve come to the right place! In this article, we’ll tell you why, if you have poor dental health, you should seriously consider getting dental implants soon.

Now then, let’s get started!

1. A Whiter and Brighter Smile

It’s safe to say that everyone aspires to have a white and bright smile. That’s why so many toothpaste brands cater to the idea that, by using their product, your teeth will shine brighter than they ever have before.

While it’s true that proper dental care can improve the whiteness of your smile, sometimes that isn’t enough. This is especially true if you have damaged or discolored teeth, or are missing teeth completely.

If this sounds like your current oral health situation, achieving a white smile may even seem like an impossible dream. Because sometimes even the best modern solutions to a healthy smile can’t help you get a white smile that you’re proud to show off in photos.

Well, with dental implants, you’ll be able to achieve that beautiful white smile you’ve been dreaming of, regardless of your current oral health situation. This can help you feel more comfortable smiling or laughing, which can completely change your life for the better.

This confidence boost can even blend over into your personal life or even your career. And with this newfound confidence comes the willingness to put yourself out there more and go after new goals, which of course is a good thing.

2. Improved Physical Appearance

One of, if not the biggest benefits to getting dental implants is the ability to improve your overall physical appearance. As we touched on earlier, having a whiter and brighter smile can go a long way in making you look and feel better each and every day.

But, believe it or not, dental implants can even change the way your overall face looks, too. This is especially true if you’re currently dealing with edentulism, or lack of teeth, in any kind of way.

Simply put, improving your facial structure with dental implants can give you a much more natural-looking jawline. And when you look at yourself in pictures, or in the mirror, you’ll be happy with the way that you look.

3. The Ability to Eat Certain Foods Again

We’ve all heard the old saying “an apple a day keeps the doctor away.” But sometimes your teeth can prevent you from eating certain foods, like delicious and healthy apples, without cutting them up into tiny pieces.

You can even be forced to avoid some foods completely, which isn’t fun, especially around the holiday season.

Well, this can be a thing of the past, should you decide to get dental implants in the near future. Once the healing process is complete, all of the food that you currently avoid due to your teeth can once again return to your life.

So whether it’s steak or a delicious piece of taffy, don’t let your teeth prevent you from eating the foods you want to eat anymore.

4. Improved Clarity of Speech

Often times, damaged teeth can impact more than just your looks or what kind of foods you can eat. Unfortunately, damaged or missing teeth can even have a negative effect on your ability to talk in a clear and concise manner.

This can obviously affect your overall confidence in certain situations, like at work or when you’re on a date. And even if you currently have dentures, the ability to pronounce certain words can be difficult.

Also, the fear of your dentures falling out mid-sentence, and embarrassing you, can prevent you from even speaking as much as you’d like.

Well, because dental implants are implanted in your mouth, they’re a lot like real teeth. This means they won’t shift in your mouth while you eat or talk, so you can speak with confidence and clarity.

Also, you won’t have to fear about them coming out while you’re talking, and embarrassing you in the process, which is a huge positive.

5. The Overall Durability of Implants

One of the biggest questions about dental implants is in regard to their durability. People are curious to know how often the implants will need to be replaced and if they are indeed a permanent solution to their oral health issues.

Well, depending on how well you take care of them, dental implants can last a long time without needing to be replaced. In fact, it’s quite normal for dental implants to last you the rest of your lifetime, which is as permanent of a solution as there is!

This is much different than dentures or other dental solutions. This is why if you’re serious about fixing your smile for good, dental implants are the only way to go.

Here are just a few reasons why dental implants are the superior choice:

  • Dental implants are extremely fracture-resistant
  • Unlike real teeth, dental implants will never decay
  • Dental implants are made from non-corrosive, biocompatible materials
  • Once healed, dental implants will fuse with the existing bone in your jaw, giving them additional strength

6. Improved Dental Comfort

If you currently have dentures or have had them in the past, you know just how uncomfortable they can be to wear. And if you have damaged teeth or exposed nerves, the pain that you deal with on a daily basis can be life-altering, to say the least.

Believe it or not, dental implants can make this problem a thing of the past, and for good, too. That way you can experience life without dental pain and see how much you’ve been missing out on!

Often times, we don’t realize how much we’re affected by something until it’s removed. It’s safe to say that, once you have your dental implants, you’ll be amazed at how much better you feel as a result.

11 Benefits of Dental Implants

7. Bone Loss Prevention

One of the biggest issues that come from suffering from edentulism of any kind is bone loss. Believe it or not, when a tooth is missing, you can lose up to 25% of the bone in the area during the first year alone. And that bone loss doesn’t stop over time, which isn’t a good thing.

And while dentures can be beneficial for other reasons, the can actually make bone loss worse. Because dentures rub against the bone in your mouth often, they can actually grind and wear away the bone itself, speeding up the bone loss process.

Remember, a dental implant replaces both your root and your tooth. This means your ability to chew food is restored to normal, and thus, your bone is stimulated. This stimulation allows for it to not only not wear away, but to grow naturally, which is what you want.

8. Improved Self-Esteem

We’ve touched on this briefly earlier, but it’s worth mentioning again just how much good dental implants can do for your self-esteem.

Going through life be tough enough as is without lacking confidence due to your smile not being what you want it to be. And even if it’s a subconscious thing, that lack of confidence can prevent you from attempting new things, or going after new goals.

Simply put, that’s no way to live your life. So let dental implants give you the boost in confidence that you deserve. That way you tackle all of life’s obstacles head-on and even go after a few things that you were too afraid of before.

9. Aging Prevention

One of the biggest fears that almost everyone deals with is the fear of growing older. Because when you start to grow older, you start to look older, which isn’t something anyone wants to have happened to them.

As we touched on earlier, missing teeth can lead to your face actually sinking in somewhat, especially around your jaw and mouth area.

This can change the overall shape of your face. And as you grow older, it can actually make you look even older than you are, because of how sunken your face has become.

While you can’t combat the aging process, you can at least slow it down, or make it less noticeable, with dental implants. So if you’re missing teeth, and have already noticed your face starting to sink, consider getting implants today.

10. Improved Oral Health

Did you know that bad oral health can have serious effects on your heart, as well as your overall well being?  That’s right, bad oral health can even lead to you dying at an early age, which isn’t something anyone wants.

That’s why the biggest benefit, above all other benefits, to dental implants is improved oral health. Because of the fact that dental implants replace your teeth and their roots completely, any issues you may have are completely gone, too.

And with this improved oral health comes a decreased chance of heart-related issues, which means you can stay healthier and live longer as a result.

Oral health affects overall health in a multitude of ways, including:

  • Good oral health keeps bacteria in your mouth, and therefore your body, under control
  • A healthy level of saliva neutralizes the acid in your mouth and helps in preventing disease
  • Along with being linked to heart disease, poor oral health can also contribute to serious health conditions such as pneumonia and even premature birth

11. Cost-Effectiveness

Perhaps the main reason why someone wouldn’t seriously consider dental implants is the cost of the procedure. But if you’re currently paying for other dental procedures routinely, like bridges and root canals, or have dentures, implants can actually be more cost-effective in the long run.

Again, if taken care of properly, dental implants can last you for the rest of your life. And during that time span, you won’t be paying for root canals, cavities, or other dental procedures.

And if you have dentures, getting new ones every few years can add up, too. But once again, that won’t be a problem anymore, thanks to your permanent dental implants.

So if the price is something you’re hung up on, take a second and check out the numbers. You might be surprised to find that, in the long run, implants are the best option.

The 11 Benefits of Dental Implants

Well, there you have it! Those are 11 benefits of dental implants!

As you can see, there are quite a few good reasons why dental implants are worth considering. The ability to quickly improve your oral health, as well as your mental health, is without a doubt the biggest reason to do so.

You’ll instantly have a whiter and brighter smile, which can improve your overall confidence overnight. The ability to prevent further oral health issues, like bone loss, is a big plus, too.

Dental implants are a cost-effective option that, if cared for properly, can last you for a lifetime. They can help keep you looking young, and give you the confidence you need to find success in all aspects of your life.

How do we evaluate you for Dental Implants?

To evaluate whether an implant is the best solution for your missing teeth we will ask you to undergo a dental visual and X-ray examination, including the documentation of your health history. We will use these consultation visits to establish your specific needs. The consultation will be done with Dr. Naqvi at Orion Dental in our Milton and Scarborough dentist offices. Your questions and concerns are important to us and our team will work with you very closely to help make you understand these procedures.

What is our Dental Implant procedure?

After a thorough evaluation, your dentist can tell you whether you’re a candidate for dental implants. They require adequate bone structure for placement. The first stage of the procedure involves oral surgery in which a titanium post is implanted into the jawbone for each missing tooth or for the new teeth that will anchor a bridge or denture. Nature will take its course, allowing your bone tissue to fuse with the titanium post. This creates a solid foundation.

Dental implants are titanium posts, which function as a substitute for your real tooth root. These titanium posts are surgically placed into the jawbone. These are then attached to the implant, which protrudes through the gums. These posts provide stable anchors for artificial replacement teeth. For most patients, the placement of dental implants involves two surgical procedures. First, implants are placed within your jawbone. For the first three to six months following surgery, the implants are beneath the surface of the gums, gradually bonding with the jawbone.

After the implant has bonded to the jawbone, the second phase begins. The surgeon will uncover the implants and attach a small healing collar. An impression will be taken a few days following this procedure. Then posts or attachments can be connected to the implants. The replacement teeth are then made over the posts or attachments. The entire procedure usually takes four to six months. Most patients do not experience any disruption in their daily life.

Once the implants are secured, your dentist will attach a handcrafted, permanent crown to each post. The restorations will match your natural teeth and blend seamlessly with your smile.

By imitating an entire natural tooth, from the root up, dental implants offer a prosthetic that closely mimics nature. The result? Dental implant patients enjoy restored function, which allows a healthy diet of hard-to-chew foods. Speech may also improve. Strong and secure, your new smile will boost your confidence, enhance your appearance, and improve your quality of life.
