Dental Implant Recovery Diet: What Should You Eat After Dental Implant Surgery?

Are you preparing for dental implant surgery and are wondering what to expect after the procedure? A good place to start is to learn what you should and should not eat after this dental procedure.

To learn more about what to eat after dental implant surgery, keep reading. In this guide, we will give you some dental implant recovery diet tips and tricks that will help you keep your smile healthy and looking great after your procedure.

What Foods to Avoid

After your implants have healed and have integrated into your jawbone you will be able to enjoy all of your favorite foods, as your dental implant will prove to be as strong as all of your other teeth. However, in the healing process, you will want to be more careful when it comes to what foods to eat. There are certain foods that you will want to avoid in order to protect your new implants that are still healing.

To prevent damage to your implants which can set your recovery time back and/or create the need for additional treatment, you will want to avoid tough foods such as steak, or hard foods, such as raw veggies that could damage your implant. Additionally, crunchy foods such as popcorn or chips should also be avoided to make sure you are not chipping or breaking the implant. Sticky foods like taffy, gum, or caramel should also be avoided as they could stick to your implant, risking that it could get pulled out or positioned incorrectly in your jaw.

Additionally, hot or spicy foods such as salsa or peppers could cause the sensitive area to burn. Acidic foods like tomato or citrus could also cause the sensitive area to sting. Hor foods or liquids such as hot coffee, tea, or soup may also cause irritation to the affected area.

What Foods You Should Eat

With all of these restrictions for what not to eat after a dental implant procedure, it can be difficult to know which foods you should stock up on before your surgery. However, there are plenty of healthy and delicious options that will not affect your implant. Because your teeth and jaw will be very delicate after surgery, you want to make sure that you stick to a soft food diet within at least 24 hours after your surgery.

Smoothies can be a great option, especially if they are filled with healthy fruits and veggies. This can be a great way to get the nutrition you need to generate energy after your surgery without causing pain to your mouth. Applesauce and cold soups can also be great options.

Any food that does not require chewing can be a great dental implant aftercare meal option. You will also want to avoid drinking from a straw, smoking or drinking alcohol during this period.
