5 Players That Everton Needs To Sell This Summer

The summer transfer window is in full swing. This is an important window to Everton to continue to build their squad.

There are plenty of high wages and deadwood on the books need to be trimmed off. Marcel Brands has a difficult job on his hands. Everton transfer news has been all over the place lately. Let’s take a look at 5 players that Everton needs to sell this summer.

Yannick Bolaise

First arriving in the summer of 2017, Bolaise was a big signing from Crystal Palace. Everton spent roughly £25 million to secure the winger with big potential. Things just didn’t pan out the way everyone thought, however.

Bolaise suffered a horrible knee injury that prevented him from playing for almost a year. Once he returned, he didn’t look like the same player. Maybe he came back too soon?

Once Marco Silva took over, Yannick was deemed surplus to requirements and was shipped out to Aston Villa on loan and then to Anderlecht. According to Spotrac, Bolaise is paid £75,000 a week in wages. This is going to be a stumbling block for clubs trying to sign him.

Everton need to sell Bolaise this summer. There are rumors that he has a £10 million release clause in his contract. Getting £10 million for him would be a blessing.

Theo Walcott

Where to start with Walcott. When Everton first signed him in January of 2018, he looked like a real coup. Fast-forward to the 2018/19 campaign, it was a different story. Walcott provided Everton with virtually nothing in matches he started. Yes, there were the occasional goal or two, but was absent otherwise.

At 30-years-old, Walcott’s future at Everton is murky at best. Everton needs to capitalize on him this summer. Similar to Bolaise, getting £10 million for Walcott would be a blessing. Clearing his £100,000 a week wages would be Brands balance the books and bring in younger, potentially better players.

Kevin Mirallas

Kevin Mirallas, so much potential yet couldn’t fulfill it. On his day, Mirallas would have been one of the top attackers in the Premier League. Inconsistency and ego hurt himself during his career, however.

After being loaned out to Serie A side Fiorentina for the 2018/19 campaign, Mirallas failed to impress there. He scored 2 goals in 27 appearances for the club. This lead to Fiorentina stating they will not exercise their option to buy Mirallas at seasons end. So Kevin will be back at Everton this summer. But not for long, hopefully.

The 31-year-old still have some talent. It’s there. But he is another player on Everton’s wage bill that needs to be cut. He is making a reported £70,000 a week. Super Kev, you provided us with some great memories but it’s time to see you go.

Sandro Ramirez

You have to feel for Sandro Ramirez. Most Evertonians thought we got a coup when we signed him for £5 million from Málaga. There is scored 14 goals in 30 appearances at 21-years old.

Fast-forward to today, Ramirez has been sent out of loan twice by Everton to Sevilla and Real Sociedad. In 34 appearance between both clubs, Ramirez has scored a whomping 0 goals.

On a £120,000 a week wages, Sandro is making out like a bandit. It’s going to be difficult for Everton to offload this contract even for a low transfer fee. I expect Silva is give Sandro another go during pre-season and will likely send him out on loan again. If there are any takers.

James McCarthy

James McCarthy has been a very solid player throughout his Everton career. Sadly, it is time to let him go and play elsewhere. Since he suffered a terrible leg injury, chances on the pitch have come few and far in-between.

With Gana, Davies, Schneiderlin and possibly Gomes in front of him in the midfield pecking order, McCarthy has no room anymore in this squad. Since the 2016/17 campaign, McCarthy has appeared in 20 matches for the Toffees. He is too injury prone.

Cutting his wages this summer would be a smart business move by Brands. £50,000 a week in wages for an injured midfielder is not ideal for Everton. McCarthy has been a great servant to the club still.

Final Thoughts

And there you have it. These are 5 players that Everton need to sell this summer in order to cut their wage budget. Of course there are a few other players that could have been mentioned as well.
