FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Paramount, CA, May 1, 2023— Are you interested in pursuing a career in the healthcare industry? Healthcare Career College can help you achieve your career goals! The California-based college offers courses in a variety of career fields.

One program that stands out for students interested in joining the healthcare industry is their 11-month massage therapy program.

This course is especially attractive for students who may have visual impairments. Historically, the massage industry has included people with visual impairments. The hands-on work that appeals to their sense of touch allows those with visual impairments to excel in this field.

The job sector in this field predicts a 20% growth in the next 10 years. To help students gain relevant experience, the school has set up a clinic where the public can receive discounted massages.

The massage therapy program provides students who have visual impairments with an opportunity for steady work. Only 44% of people with visual impairments are in the work force, and another 10% are unemployed, struggling to find work. Registered massage therapists typically earn between $50,010 and $64,176 annually in the US, making it a lucrative career for those interested in joining the field.

Amita Garg, Campus Director of the Healthcare Career College, is helping recruit the first cohort of 15 students for the 11-month program to start from its South Los Angeles site. The college is working with Ready Willing and ABLE, which has joined forces with the California Department of Rehabilitation and the Institute for Workplace Skills and Innovation America (IWSI) to support Californians with disabilities to secure full-time careers.

As a Fulbright Scholar, Amita saw first-hand while traveling in East Asia how that society accepted blind massage therapists.

“I spent time in Japan and Korea and saw the profession of massage was reserved for blind people historically. It’s practical and a means of income in a society where you don’t have social security.”

She’s also tapped into expertise to ensure the course develops students’ skills across a range of soft-tissue massage therapy techniques. These techniques include clinic, Swedish, trigger point and deep tissue massage. Students will also have the opportunity to learn about kinesiology and physical therapy fundamentals. For graduates, this course can open doors to work in local integrative health environments, massage clinics and spas.

“It is really wonderful to see the school taking initiative to help as many students as possible. It is really great to have such an opportunity here,” said one California resident.

Amita is committed to offering choices for disabled adults who typically face many obstacles when obtaining a traditional education.  “We’re a vocational school and understand that adult learners should face no barriers if they want to tackle a new career.”
