How to Find and Hire a Great Local DJ

Looking for a local DJ for your wedding, party or corporate event? It’s easy, isn’t it? Just do a Google search and call the first one on the list. But hold on, here at Mora’s Mobile Music, we’ve heard a lot of wedding and DJ horror stories from just picking one off the internet.

Here are a few tips on hiring the best local DJ.

Experience and Personality

Playing music and being a wedding DJ or event MC isn’t about pushing buttons. It’s about entertaining your guests without taking any of the attention away from you. That’s not easy. It takes experience to know how to read a crowd and to set the mood. It takes time and listening to get an understanding of what you want and what your guests like.

I have been providing professional mobile disc jockey services throughout the Central Valley of California – from Hanford to Fresno to Visalia and as far away as Santa Barbara and San Jose for over 20 years. I started my career as an on-air radio personality and you don’t keep your job unless you are interesting and you make your listeners happy.

If you’re looking at your potential DJ’s website testimonials, look for comments like: “All of our guests loved you” and “you were a perfect fit.”

Services and Equipment

Next, take a look at their menu of services. There’s a lot more to being a wedding DJ than playing music. You want to find someone who can help you run your event and who will be prepared. Look for services such as: concierge services, owning professional equipment designed for large or small events, professional uplighting, fog machine and the ability to MC your event and even help with planning and coordination.

Are they relying on just one piece of equipment? Or lightweight, consumer-grade equipment? I use professional equipment and even have backups so that nothing stops the music!

If you’re planning a big event, fundraiser or and corporate celebration, make sure you get a very experienced, reliable and professional DJ who has the right equipment and the right experience to help make your event run smoothly.

The Music!

Of course, the music is the most important element. A professional event or wedding DJ should be able to tell you about how many songs are in their library. For example, I have over 100,000 songs in my professional library! Plus, I listen to you so I know your favorite songs, your must haves, and even the “please don’t play” songs. I have family-friendly radio edits of many songs, so I can keep everyone happy by avoiding those lyrics that make Grandma cringe.

Plus, I know how to “read” your crowd, set the mood and get the crowd out on the dance floor. Because you want to dance like no one is looking… and I want to DJ like everyone is listening!
