Eleanor Health Unveils Durham NC Office to Treat Opioid and Substance Use Disorders

Durham, NC – Eleanor Health, an outpatient addiction and mental health services provider designed to deliver an integrated, evidence-based outpatient care and addiction recovery platform for opioid and substance use disorders, unveiled its newest office location in Durham, NC. This location is the fourth office opened by the company as part of a plan to open 10 to 15 Eleanor Health sites, first in North Carolina, and then across the country, in the next year. This newest location is at 3711 University Drive, Suite B, Durham, NC.

The Eleanor Health community-based approach was specifically created to make recovery accessible to all. They take an innovative approach to treating addiction, now the leading cause of death in America for those under age 50, by treating addiction as a chronic disease. They have differentiated themselves by taking an evidence-based clinical approach, offering a value-based payment model, extending their level of care and coordination, having field-based community recovery teams, supporting technology, and focusing on whole-person outcomes. They refer to the people they serve as “community members”.

Their first North Carolina site opened in Mooresville, followed by an office in High Point. As with these other locations, the Durham team focuses on the complete set of clinical and non-clinical factors of their members to manage their disease and provide them with both human and high-tech support. They provide treatment for adults with opioid, alcohol, and other substance use disorders; older adults who may require more intensive medical support; relapsed individuals seeking to reengage their recovery process; and pregnant women who need addiction treatment as well as OB/GYN services. Their approach is designed to treat patients wherever they are on their journey to recovery, through outpatient clinics, community settings, and at home by field-based teams and the use of technology.

“We strive to make a real, positive difference in the lives of our members, their loved ones, and the communities we serve. We recognize that every member is a unique individual and treat them with dignity and compassion,” said Corbin Petro, CEO and co-founder of Eleanor Health.“Through proactive, consistent outreach, we meet members where they are and help them get to the future they want.”

Eleanor Health offers a comprehensive substance use disorder treatment program that includes medication, therapy, and connection to resources. Treatment plans may include medications to assist with withdrawal symptoms or co-occurring mental health disorders, such as anxiety or depression. In addition to these treatments, they provide individual, group, couples, and family therapy and counseling. There are also psychiatric services that include evaluation and ongoing medication management for mental health needs.

Eleanor Health has a network of Community Recovery Partners in the Durham area, to assist members and their families with housing, employment, healthcare, childcare, legal services, wellness programs, and continuing education. Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina (Blue Cross NC) is a major collaborator with Eleanor Health to expand access to their treatment services throughout the state. “Our partnership with Blue Cross NC is so important in bringing addiction care into neighborhoods that have long been underserved. This reach must extend care towards those who need it, bringing it nearby, while keeping it financially affordable,” said Petro. “By working with local systems of healthcare and community partners, we can multiply our efforts in supporting addiction treatment and recovery.”

More than 21 million people have a substance use disorder in the United States. Drug overdose claimed the lives of more than 700,000 from 1999 to 2017. North Carolina’s Department of Health and Human Services confirmed that more than 1,600 opioid overdose deaths occurred in 2018.

Eleanor Health is named after the Greek meaning of the word Eleanor, “shining light” and as an homage to Eleanor Roosevelt, a famed human rights champion, who advocated for universal medical care. Eleanor Health is located approximately four miles from Duke University Medical Center. To go to the new Durham office, visit https://goo.gl/maps/aQry1hJ9MSJ5mMBs8 for directions.
