The Ultimate Quick Guide to Apartment Pest Control

Living in an apartment has its perks. It also has its creepy-crawlies. This guide is for apartment dwellers who need to keep their spaces safe.

Your apartment is a magnet for common household pests.

Even if you keep everything meticulously clean, never leave food or dirty dishes out, and take your garbage out twice a week, there’s still no guarantee that those creepy crawlers won’t get in.

Bugs can get into your home through cracks in concrete floors, air vents, or even through the gaps in your front door.

If the thought of insects squirming into your home makes your skin crawl, then this guide is for you!

How to Control Pests in Your Apartment

1. Call the Professionals

Before you go breaking out the heavy poisons yourself or setting out traps, you might want to consider whether your pest problem warrants calling professional pest control services.

Using poisonous chemicals you’re not familiar with can result in sickness or even death. For the inexperienced bug-killer, you may even spend money on expensive extermination methods only to find that it didn’t kill everything and have to call Pest Control anyway.

How much of a priority is it that your apartment is cleared of pests quickly and permanently? Can you risk the bugs coming back in a week to ruin your day?

If need the most effective and permanent way to kill pests in your apartment, consider calling in the professionals!

2. Keep It Clean!

The best way to control your pest problem is to prevent it from happening in the first place!

Although there’s little you can do to stop an unsanitary neighbor from drawing pests into your building, if you keep your apartment clean, you can detect an infestation quickly and stop it before it gets out of control.

Pay specific attention to your kitchen and any area where moisture builds up. Pests get into your home for food and water, so when you leave dirty dishes in your sink or spills on your countertop, you’re practically inviting bugs in for a feast.

Clean regularly and the pests will have no reason to invade!

3. Spice Things Up!

Tobasco Sauce

Most bugs can’t stand the taste or smell of spicy foods like Tobasco sauce.

Spraying a solution of water and Tobasco near potential entry points is a great natural way to ward off ants, cockroaches, and spiders.

But be careful! If your solution is too strong, you might be dealing with the smell of hot sauce yourself until you clean it up!

Garlic

It may not be the best option for a first date, but if you want to keep the pests away, most bugs can’t stand garlic.

Leave a few cloves under the sink in your kitchen or anywhere pests are likely to be found, and it’s sure to keep them away.

And bonus: it’ll solve your vampire problems too!

Peppermint Oil

If it’s mice you’re trying to rid from your place, then you’re in luck in terms of a fresh-smelling apartment.

Rodents can’t stand the minty smell of peppermint oil and will turn tail and run when they encounter it.

Mix about 1/4 cup of water with 40 drops of peppermint oil in a spray bottle and apply liberally beneath sinks, in kitchen cabinets, and along baseboards in your home.

Summary

If you’re dealing with a pest infestation in your apartment or you’re just trying to prevent it from happening, keep your apartment clean, use natural household remedies, and don’t be afraid to call in the professionals!
