If you’re not using Teflon coated bolts yet, here’s 5 reasons why you should start using them today.

Have you ever used a substandard material, simply because you thought that it would be too expensive to buy Teflon coated bolts?

We’ve probably all committed that mistake.

But when it comes to nuts and bolts, there’s no excuse for spending less.

These are the pieces that tie it all together.

And buying the right nuts and bolts isn’t only better, it’s actually also cheaper in the long run.

Items that are not stock can be manufactured and coated in days not weeks or months.

1. Longer lifespan

One of the major concerns that contractors, engineers and plant operators have with nuts and bolts is the often limited lifespan.

One step you can take to drastically improve the lifespan of your nuts and bolts is to use PTFE bolts instead.

When Teflon coating is applied to these bolts, it acts as an extra layer of protection when the material is twisted and turned during operation.

How long do PTFE fasteners last?

The lifespan of the studs depends a lot on the kind of stress that the bolt will be subjected to during its life.

But one thing is for sure, the PTFE coating increases the lifespan of the fastener dramatically.

2. Increased strength

PTFE bolts are simply stronger.

According to this chart of technical specifications, studs that were coated with Teflon showed a measurable improvement of around 4000 psi to tensile strength.

The same nuts have an operating pressure upwards of 100.000 psi.

That’s part of what gives these nuts such an incredible lifespan. They don’t break because of a little action. They are built to be used in and around moving parts.

In addition, they can be used up to 260? celsius / 500? fahrenheit, although the nut will start to weaken at this point.

3. Easier to use

Ask any contractor who’s currently using Teflon coated bolts if he’s willing to switch back to using standard galvanized studs, and the answer will most likely be a resounding “No!”

Part of what makes Teflon coated bolts great is the fact that they are just a joy to work with.

The low coefficient of friction means that the bolt has a reduced torque requirement.

This essentially just means that the nut is easier to fasten and easier to loosen, whether you’re using a wrench or a power tool.

In turn, this also makes the PTFE stud much safer to work with.

4. Resistance to corrosion

Another thing is the amazing resistance to corrosion.

Studs coated with Teflon have the same benefits as stainless steel. PTFE nuts are almost completely resistant to organic, acid and alkaline corrosion, but with a far higher tensile strength than their stainless steel counterparts.

Working with nuts and bolts that are rusted, corrosive or otherwise old and fragile can be dangerous.

Fragile nuts and bolts have a risk of breaking, and if that happens while someone is working in the vicinity, it can create a potentially life-threatening situation.

Using PTFE nuts will remove all of these safety hazards once and for all. The polymer coating gives you up to 2200 hours of corrosion resistance.

5. Cost efficient fasteners

For some, this might be the most convincing argument.

Using Teflon studs is actually a much more cost-effective solution than using regular bolts.

The durability of the product means that the life expectancy is far higher.

This means you won’t have to buy new studs as often as you otherwise would. You save money.

They’re also easier to use, which means contractors will work faster and more efficiently. You save money.

They increase safety. This means you avoid unfortunate injuries or damage to material on the worksite. You save money.
