Keep Your Office Space Clean With DIY Antibacterial Hand Wipes

Long before COVID-19 took up so much air space and hurtled us forward into the so-called new normal, we used to clean our office spaces.

Of course, you remember it well. Neat stacks of paper in your In and Out trays, files in perfect, straight lines on the dust-free shelves behind you. Pristine floors and surfaces of all types.

Remember how, every day, you would dutifully give your computer and keyboard the once-over with your mini-duster and wet wipes? And how you spent time on the weekend mixing up a batch of your very own DIY antibacterial hand wipes because you loved all this surface wiping so much?

Then, on Monday morning, you would share it out among your colleagues, because, like you, their lives weren’t complete without bright, clean, shiny surfaces in a germ-free space smelling of meadow freshness itself.

Things Change — and Things Stay the Same

Okay, that last paragraph was heading into the realms of fantasy. It wasn’t exactly like that. But now it has to be.

The airborne COVID-19 virus, with its global death toll of over one million people and counting, has made ultra-clean a must for every office. We cannot afford to run the risk of dirty surfaces. And human beings just love to put their germ-laden hands on every surface.

Enter super-heroes with their home-made canisters of DIY antibacterial hand wipes clipped to their belt. Thanks to COVID-19, times are hard for lots of us, and econo-mode for humans is a thing! It doesn’t hurt to use old-fashioned good sense in even the most sophisticated of spaces.

Recipe for DIY Antibacterial Hand Wipes

There are many recipes for the antibacterial hand wipe liquid you can use to sanitize your office space. The one we’ve linked to gives you tips on how to make your container, and follows the tried and tested rule in any kitchen.

That rule is to work out easy-to-remember proportions. That way, you don’t have to get out your recipe every single time you need a new batch. So, here are the ingredients to mix together to give you one quart of liquid:

  • 1/2 cup vinegar
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/4 cup rubbing alcohol, i.e., either isopropyl alcohol (isopropanol) or ethyl alcohol (ethanol).
  • 1 teaspoon washing up liquid
  • 10 drops essential oil (optional)

The isopropyl alcohol needs to be at least 70% alcohol to be effective as a disinfectant, especially for those grubby keyboards and mobile devices. The vinegar should be the most ordinary white or brown vinegar you can find. None of that fancy balsamic stuff, now!

The optional essential oil is good for the mixture that you use to wipe your own hands, but we’d give it a miss if you’re using this germ-buster to sanitizer your keyboard, arms of chairs, and desk and counter surfaces, etc. Clean the items in question as often as necessary.

Innovative Office Supplies

The COVID-19 pandemic has not stopped innovation in its tracks. Actually, it has got people thinking up even more bright ideas, such as antibacterial file folders. These have become a must-have in the office since they come with sanitizing properties already embedded in the paper.

They won’t stop the spread of the new coronavirus on their own, but they do give you one more thing to give your peace of mind.
