Stretch marks, also known as Striae in dermatology, are a very common occurrence of skin scarring that involves the rupturing of the topmost layer of the skin. The destruction of this layer of the skin gives rise to visible ridges known as stretch marks, which tend to persist for long. Nevertheless, they usually fade with time, without treatment and/or application of remedies.

Stretch marks are mostly caused by sudden and rapid weight loss or weight gain. Although anyone can get stretch marks, they occur mostly in body builders, and pregnant women, and typically found in and around the waist, breasts, and near the armpits.

Using Avocado for Stretch Marks The best way to avoid getting stretch marks is to prevent them from occurring in the first place by applying natural ointments and creams to areas of the body that are vulnerable to stretch marks such as the waist, extremities, and the torso regularly. However, if you already have stretch marks, natural products such as Avocado can help get rid of them.

Outlined below are ways in which avocado can help with stretch marks.

The Avocado oil, which is the component used in battling stretch marks gotten from the Avocado fruit pulp has other functions apart from culinary uses, including hair and skin care.

The Avocado oil contains a lot of skin supporting vitamins such as Vitamins A, D, and, E. These vitamins are important for skin healing processes and repair. In addition to vitamins, Avocado oil also contains Omega-3 Fatty Acids which are used to tackle skin aging, and repair damaged cells of the skin, hair and nails. The oil also contains unsaponifiables which have been proven scientifically to reduce age spots, soften the skin, and heal scarring. It is for this reason that the moisturizing properties of Avocado oil are very significant in tackling stretch marks.

Using Avocado oil can also stimulate the production of collagen in the skin, thereby strengthening the skin, and ultimately preventing stretch marks.

How to Use Avocado Oil to Prevent Stretch Marks

Pour two tablespoons full Avocado Oil into a bowl. Add to the oil 5-7 drops of Lavender and Chamomile oil. You can also add a couple of Neroli oil if you wish. Carrot seed oil and Tangerine oil also works very well with Avocado oil and can further help to promote skin health and regenerate damaged skin cells. Mix the oils together, and allow to settle before using. After your daily and nightly bath, clean the skin dry with a clean towel and gently massage the mixed oils into your skin, focusing more on areas that are more vulnerable to stretch marks. Go through the process 2-3 times for faster results. Massage affected areas, as well as other parts of the body 2-3 times a day to prevent and reduce the on-set of stretch marks. After using Avocado oil for a couple of weeks, already existing stretch marks should begin to reduce, although the time may vary according to different body types.
