 A brand of Chief Industries since 1973, announced a 6,000 sq. ft. expansion of a state of the art securement and training facility in Grand Island. Chief Carriers is a dedicated fleet of trucks and trailers that primarily deliver building components for its sister divisions, Chief Agri and Chief Buildings. Their logistics group, Chief Logistics, has been in business since 1986 and handles flatbed shipments anywhere in the United States and Canada, including specialized and oversized freight. Together, Chief Carriers and Chief Logistics move more than 10,000 shipments per year.

Chief Carriers continue to make significant investments in their people and driver facilities to ensure they are a true leader in the flatbed transportation segment.  This project is unique in that typically only the largest truckload carriers have the ability to offer enclosed training and securement facilities, “ said Andrew Winkler, General Manager of Chief Carriers.

Driving a flatbed can be one of the most physically demanding transportation jobs due to the amount of time spent working out in the elements or environment in which to secure their loads out of the wind, rain, cold winter temperatures, and the heat of the sun in the summer. 

This facility will provide Chief Carriers with an environment where they can conduct new hire orientation, student training, hands-on safety demonstrations, and driver safety meetings. 

The 6,000 sq. ft. state-of-the-art securement center will also provide truck drivers with a safer environment to tie-down loads with fall protection and an adjacent surface to the trailer free of rain, ice, and snow.

Winkler continued, “Our driver securement center will have the services and amenities our drivers deserve. The two-bay securement building will serve as a training center for student drivers and drivers in orientation. This is a significant investment in improving the quality of life for our drivers by providing an indoor space to train and tie-down out of the weather elements.”

Drivers will have 24/7 access to the 60’ x 100’ multi-purpose expansion. The heated securement and training facility will help keep their drivers out of the elements. The steel erection, led by Chief Construction, will begin in January with a completion expectation of February.

Chief Carriers has two terminals. They run a total of 65 trucks made up of 50 company trucks and 15 owner-operators. There is an internal staff of 18 that keeps the trucks rolling in the lower 48 states.
