7 Amazing Reasons You Should Adopt a Pet

There are several things you might not have considered if you want to adopt a pet.

The ASPCA claims that 6.5 million animals enter U.S. animal shelters every year. And these are companion animals that can be adopted. Although, many of them have indeed suffered trauma, starvation, and no love whatsoever.

Yet, if you have a family, you might be put off by the notion of another hungry mouth to feed. And then there’s the duties, costs, and labor that come with it.

Well, let’s look at seven very positive and amazing reasons why adopting a pet will be so worth it!

You Save a Life

Every animal in our shelter is in desperate need of a second chance. They’ve been misplaced, abandoned, or given up. All of them are undesired and powerless. You’re giving them a second chance at life in a caring environment.

If left out to fend for themselves, many animals starve to death, get run over by a vehicle, or become neglected. If we claim to live in a civilized and compassionate society, we have to care for the people in it and other forms of life too.

Furthermore, if more people adopted pets instead of buying them, they may reduce the number of animals euthanized. Adopting a loving animal into your household saves them from euthanasia and frees up shelter space for another animal in critical need.

Support an Animal Charity

Unfortunately, nearly all communities in the United States needs an animal shelter.

By adopting a pet from a shelter, you’re making it clear to others who will enquire where you got your gorgeous pet for years to come. And, people will see that adopting a pet is just as viable as buying one from a breeder or a pet store.

Also, adopted animals from shelters must be spayed or neutered, which benefits the community. This requirement reduces the likelihood of additional unwanted animals entering the area where you live.

Adopt a Pet That’s Well Cared for Already

All animals brought to a shelter are admitted by trained personnel. Upon arrival, they receive vaccines and are subjected to a behavioral assessment.

Then once they settle into their temporary home, shelter animals are well cared for by the trained staff. The staff will feed them well and treat them for physical and mental issues.

So when you come to adopt an animal, be it a dog, cat, or whatever else, they won’t just come to you traumatized off the street. You’ll also be able to ask the staff about each animal you might be interested in, to learn about their character and problems, if any.

It Will Cost You Less

Shelters tend to include the cost of neutering and first vaccines in the adoption price. This can help you save money on the initial expenditures of bringing a new addition to your family.

You may also save money on housebreaking and training costs, depending on the animal. Therefore, it’s always good to ask as many questions to the staff at hand. They will know all the details you want to know about each animal you are interested in.

one thing you should look into though is microchipping your pet. This way you lessen the chances of losing them if they run away. You can read more now about microchipping if it’s something that you intend to do.

Pets Are Good for Your Health

Animals not only provide unconditional love, but they also can benefit their companions emotionally, physically, and psychologically.

Caring for a pet can give you a sense of purpose and fulfillment. Plus, your animal can help you feel less lonely just by being around your home. And when you stroke your new friend, your stress levels can drop, and you can feel a sense of connection.

Furthermore, you can also feel good about helping an animal in need when you adopt one.

You Help More Than One Animal

Every year, overcrowded shelters take in millions of stray, lost, and abused animals. By adopting an animal, you free up space for other animals.

So, you’re not only giving more animals a second opportunity, but the money you spend on adoption goes to helping shelters. With that money, they can better care for the animals they take in.

Help to Stop Animal Cruelty

Thousands of underground pet-breeding locations across the country produce countless animals for sale through classified ads and in pet stores.

Puppy mills are places that impregnate female canines and keep them in cages without human connection for the rest of their lives. Underground breeders keep puppy mill animals in bad conditions with inadequate medical attention. As a result, they are frequently sick and have behavior issues.

And the worst part is, they are compelled to produce countless litters and treated like breeding machines.

Eventually, breeders kill many of the female breeders when they become unproductive assets. The same can apply to female cats also.

Therefore, adopting a shelter animal signifies that you oppose such inhumane practices.

Puppy mills survive by deception as their customers are typically naive to how the animal came into existence. This is because the point of sale may seem harmless, like from a pet store, a classified ad, or online.

Puppy mills will continue to exist until the public no longer supports them. And you may rest assured that adopting a pet will fill the pockets of neglectful breeders.

Why You Should Adopt a Pet

As you can see, there are loads of positive reasons why you should adopt a pet. And, there are many more that we could have touched upon.

Of course, one of the noblest reasons to adopt is to prevent animal cruelty from happening. The more people that adopt pets, the less business the cruel animal breeders get.
