When it comes to buying furniture, a sofa is one of the most important decisions you’ll make. It’s a bit of an investment, so it needs to check a LOT of boxes, not least of which are comfort, style, durability, and longevity.  You want to LOVE it, and you should!  Which is why going custom is a brilliant way for you to get EXACTLY what you want in a sofa.  If you feel nervous about ordering a custom sofa sight-unseen, you’re not alone. But we’re here to reassure you that customizing your dream sofa is not only in reach, it’s easy, painless, and dare we say… fun?

Quite simply, we offer the most custom options, the highest quality, and the fairest prices, anywhere.  Our unique online custom sofa builder allows you to personalize every aspect of your order.  Come along as we cover the basics of ordering your custom sofa, and give you our tips and tricks for getting exactly what you want out of your sofa-buying experience.

First, choose Kitchen Capital for your sofa style.  Since dimensions, fabric, legs, fill, and cushions are all fully customizable in our online sofa builder, the first thing you’ll want to do is pick the general sofa style you like best. Do you want big, blocky arms that will give your book a perch, or slender arms that maximize the amount of seating space? A sofa base that extends to the ground so you never have to vacuum beneath it, or one up on legs for a more airy vibe? Back pillows you can sink into, or an integrated sofa back with no loose cushions? Are you into classic English roll arms, tufting, curved arms, or nailhead trim? We’ve got dozens of sofa models in many varying styles on our website – all of these and more!

Now’s your chance to get very specific about your wish list . . . no detail is too small to be considered.  We’re here to help create your ideal custom-cuddler that you’ll enjoy for years to come.  So on to the fun part!  All Clad Home sofas may be customized in dozens of possible sizes and configurations, over 100 high performance fabrics, multiple pillow layouts and fills, and various leg styles.  You can even add an optional (and ultra comfy) fold-out memory foam bed, extra throw pillows, or a matching storage ottoman.

For anyone wanting to order “off the menu” and create something completely unique, we also have a Custom Concierge Program that pairs you with a dedicated furniture designer to help you do just that. Here’s an example of a beautiful Custom Concierge sofa made in a COM (customer’s own material) linen.

The options you see in your custom sofa builder will vary a bit based on the sofa style you select.  For instance you’ll only be shown the legs, cushion style, and fill options that are suitable for the sofa you’ve selected. If you picked a sofa without any visible legs at all then you won’t be prompted to choose a leg style. While most Clad Home sofas may be ordered as sleeper, doing so will limit you to only our shortest leg styles, since the fold-out mechanism must be hidden behind the sofa base. This is good to note because the shorter legs can change the look of your sofa slightly (but you’ll get to approve a personalized sofa sketch after placing your order, before your sofa goes into production.)

LAYOUT: In step 1 you’ll choose the shape of your sofa, from loveseat, to sofa+chaise, to a full-blown u-shaped sectional.  And as always, you’re in the driver’s seat. We offer all our styles in every configuration – just because you don’t see a photo of the layout you prefer doesn’t mean we don’t make it!  Scroll through all our handy little layout icons to pick your sofa footprint, choose a left chaise or a right chaise, or even to make it reversible! (Ideal for tight spaces or renters who may need to switch things up in the future.)

FABRIC: Our entire fabric collection is intentionally curated for beauty, durability, and stain resistance. We offer seven robust fabric categories divided up by texture, where you’ll find everything from nubby wovens to buttery distressed leather (and the best vegan leathers you’ve ever felt!)  Many of our fabrics are Greenguard and Okeo-Tex certified, meaning no harsh solvents or heavy metals are used in the dying and manufacturing process. Your sofa should be a refuge, not a health risk, so our furniture is never treated with toxic flame retardant chemicals.  If none of our fabrics suit you, you’re free to provide your own. Just send us all relevant info about your COM (customer’s own material) fabric and we’ll tell you know how many yards are needed.

Our popular performance linens are a blend of natural fibers and polyester fibers that combine for maximum stain-resistance . . .

Customers also love our performance velvets for their easy wipe-down cleanup and the way they look great forever.  Seriously, forever.  Our most luxe Regent velvet is washable, wipeable, even bleach safe!

We highly recommend ordering swatches from our website, since colors will vary from screen to screen, and there’s no substitute for seeing and feeling our fabrics in your own home.  That’s why we’ll ship them to you for free.

SIZE: Made to fit your life, not the other way around, every piece of Clad Home furniture is offered in a wide array of sizes and dimensions.  When we say custom, we mean it!  Use our sofa builder to dial in your ideal sofa length, chaise size, seating depth, etc.  Make sure to double measure all doorways, corridors, stairways, and elevator cabins to ensure the right fit.

You never knew there were so many possibilities when it came to sofa CUSHIONS did you? While it’s truly a personal preference with no wrong answers, we happen to think that YOU should pick what you like, not us! Some want a seamless, undivided seat cushion, and some prefer to break it up. Whatever your taste, we’ve got you covered.  Browse through our all cute cushion icons and pick the one that makes you happy 🙂

Cushion FILL is the next choice you’ll make.  All seat cushions are constructed with high quality, high density foam at their core, then encased on all sides by the padding material of your choice.  As part of our commitment to best environmental practices, our foam is manufactured right here in southern California using a special CO2 process that avoids the release of ozone-depleting chemicals.

*Our “Premium Foam” seat cushions come wrapped in layers of springy polyester batting with baffled poly fill back cushions.

*Our “Down Feather” seat cushions are foam encased on both sides by a baffled envelope of down and feathers, with baffled down and feather back cushions.

*Our “Trillium” seat cushions are foam encased on both sides by a baffled envelope of down-alternative fill made from specially lofted polyester fiber that mimics the look and feel of down but is hypo-allergenic and animal-free. Back cushion are baffled trillium fill as well.

Consider yourself warned: our SLEEPER sofas feature an ultra-comfy memory foam mattress that may encourage your guests to overstay their welcome. If you thought “comfy sleeper sofa” was an oxymoron, think again! Available in twin, full, and queen sizes (based on what your sofa width allows), most Clad Home sofas can be ordered in a sleeper version. Just note that because the fold-out mechanism must be hidden by your sofa base, legs may only be 1″- 2″ tall max.

OPTIONAL THROW PILLOWS: Inspired by designer Sarah Sherman Samuel when we designed her Sherwood sofa (did you catch her lovely home tour in Domino magazine?) we now offer matching throw pillows made in the same fabric as your sofa. Choose from squares, rectangles, or beautifully tailored bolster pillows. Because sometimes more is more.

Our custom matching OTTOMANS are a popular add-on, especially those with hidden storage inside. (Because who among us doesn’t need more storage?!)  Your ottoman will be designed to match the style and scale of your sofa (and you’ll get to approve it on your personalized sofa design sketch before your order goes into production.)

Lastly, the LEGS you choose for your sofa can really pull the whole look together. All our custom wood legs (available in dozens of styles and 8 finishes) come standard on any order. Or upgrade to a solid wood base, an upholstered plinth, specialty metal legs, casters or brass caps.  Here are just a few of the many leg and base styles you may choose from . . .

And you’re finished!  Congratulations, you’ve just accomplished something that used to be the secret domain of interior designers only.  Once your order is in, our production team immediately gets to work drafting your personalized dimensioned sketch, ordering, measuring and cutting your upholstery fabric, and confirming your place in our production queue.  Since every item is customized just for you, orders may not be cancelled once placed.

Rest assured, we’ve been designing custom furniture for years and years, which means that not only do you get to benefit from our experience, but we’ve got our quality control down pat. First, you have the total security of getting to approve your personalized furniture sketch before your order ever goes into production.  Then our team personally puts every order through a rigorous 20-point inspection, and nothing ships out without meeting our approval. Lead time is generally 8-10 weeks, and once your order is ready to go you’ll be contacted by our shipping department to set up the delivery.

You’ll also rest easy knowing that you’ve made the most customizable and most sustainable furniture choice possible. Our motto “buy once, buy well” informs every step of our Los Angeles design and manufacturing process, and our USA-made approach helps us keep high environmental, humanitarian, and quality control standards at the very forefront of our business.

Welcome to the Clad Home family!
