Solutions 4 IT Continues to Help Children Overcome Digital Poverty

Over the past two years, lockdowns and the pressures of homeschooling have exposed a serious digital divide between those families who can afford appropriate devices, and those who cannot. Now the kids are back at school, Solutions 4 IT is continuing to help bridge the gap and donate technology to the local community, in association with fellow Birmingham BNI member free@last.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

West Midlands, England, 8 Sept 2021 – In the age of a national pandemic, it has become ever more apparent that technology-based learning is our safety net. Even without school closures, IT plays a huge part in our children’s education. For those who cannot afford their own computer, academic outcomes are negatively affected. If a student doesn’t have their own personal computer, their potential success is limited. Their ability to learn important lessons and keep up with their more fortunate peers is severely restricted. It is clear that digital poverty is a major issue in our school system today. As a member of the Chamber of Commerce and Birmingham BNI, Solutions 4 IT is supporting another local member, free@last, who helps disadvantaged children and young people overcome the challenges of the digital era.

West-Midlands IT company, Solutions 4 IT, understands how important technology is in the education of our young people. Families suffering financial difficulties aren’t able to provide the necessary devices. Added to this, increased monetary burdens have resulted from the current economic climate. This issue is very close to the heart of those at Solutions 4 IT. Earlier this year, they made a laptop donation of 20 computers to a Halesowen primary school. Following on from this, they have now donated 21 reconditioned Lenovo laptops to the youth and community centre, free@last. Through local networking group, Birmingham BNI, Solutions 4 IT developed a good relationship with free@last, learning more about the challenges facing children who fell behind during the lockdowns. It is simply not right that some young people were unable to access schoolwork, and so Solutions 4 IT are committed to do whatever they can to help.

Dan Parker, Our Account Manager says:

‘As one of our clients have just replaced their leased machines, the team at S4IT, knew they had to play their part in being socially responsible, and agreed to donate the equipment to free@last, rather than sell them on eBay! It’s the best decision we’ve made in ages, we make sure all spare equipment is put to good use.’

The organisation, free@last, has been supporting children, young people and families in inner city Birmingham for over 21 years, and have created a strategic approach to eradicating child poverty in their community. As part of the poverty strategy, they know that digital poverty is more than just having a laptop (per child) to access home learning. It’s a severe lack of access and awareness to modern-day technology, such as AR, VR, AI, Holographic Imagery, Cloud deployments, Edge devices, future-adaptive technologic architecting, Mirrored twins and so much more. They understand that disadvantaged communities have struggled to educate their children because families do not have the technology, the connectivity, or the know-how to make it work.

John Street, founder and director of free@last says:

‘We are SO far behind the technological revolution, but the question is why should those in the most disadvantaged communities not be a part of the digital solution for our children’s success? We need to focus on bringing the WOW of technology to our children and companies like Solutions 4 IT are instrumental in helping us to help the children we serve.’

If you would like to be part of the solution too, get in touch with Solutions 4 IT or free@last. By supporting businesses who give back, we, too, can help our community achieve success.
