Being Paid To Learn
 by: Scott Lindsay

The term content writing has taken on a new meaning with the advent of the internet. In strict writing discipline the term refers to adapting your writing to match a specific style or voice. This type of writing has nothing to do with personal taste or style preference. It is, however, a means of forcing yourself to learn to write in a style that you may have never chosen on your own.

In the realm of writing for internet providers the term has a similar meaning, but there is the added component of writing specifically to fulfill the content needs of a client’s website.

Most writers in the twenty-first century are more familiar with the second term. When writing to fill online writing needs you are typically paid less than a magazine article, you are often asked to surrender all rights to the work, and your name is not typically associated with the content when it appears on the web.

This scenario can also apply to many types of newsletter writing. You are, in effect, a ghost writer – someone else may well take credit for your work.

The positive in content writing is you can write the article in a short period of time and with simple research. Another benefit to writing content for websites is that you are forced to learn new styles of writing and learning about subjects you probably would never have intentionally sought information on.

Website owners are relying more and more on fresh content written for their websites that are enhanced with keywords or phrases that assist them in a higher ranking in search engines. With so many utilizing the web this becomes a means of advertising while providing solid information to visitors.

The good news is someone has to write the content and there are many opportunities to do so. Certain you can work at creating your own content providing service, however you might also wish to apply at an established content providing company. There are also several freelance bidding sites where you can offer your services by bidding on writing jobs.

If you really enjoy writing and don’t mind a little research, content writing can provide significant opportunities for steady work.

While the downside is less pay, the upside is no speculative writing. When you accept an assignment for writing content for a website it is possible to accept an assignment, complete an assignment and be paid in a matter of hours.

It may not be like writing the great American novel, but content writing can provide a means of learning more about the craft of writing that may assist you in all areas of future writing.

What can be better than being paid to learn?
