Will The Real Spunky Old Broad Stand Up?
 by: Gayle Carson

Being real has always been my motto throughout my
entire life. The other one I have always
believed in is "Be the Best You Can Be." I don't
think you should ever compare yourself to anyone
else, but try to do the best job you can for your
own skills, situation, abilities and position.

Most people want to accomplish and be successful
and I imagine you're no different, but you never
win by trying to be anyone else. It's great to
have role models but you are you, and you must
accept yourself for who you are.

However, to live the S.O.B. life, you must have
goals and dreams. At this time in your life,
what is your mission and what do you still want
to accomplish? If you aren't doing them, then
you need to ask yourself what or who is stopping
you? Are there steps and people who can help you
along the way?

An S.O.B. is strong enough to make the hard
choices, set manageable goals, go for the gusto
and keep on track despite all the obstacles,
roadblocks, naysayers, sidetracks and doubts.
Since S.O.B.'s understand that they're
responsible for themselves, don't blame anyone
else or expect others to make the magic for you.
Find a way with no excuses.

What will add to your happiness? New hobby, new
job, new friend, new partner? Whatever it is,
start mapping out how to find it. You have left
a lot of baggage behind you at this point and if
you haven't, maybe that's what you need to start
doing. Are all the time, effort, expense, stress,
persistence and any other hardships you've been
through worth keeping? If yes, keep doing it.
If no, move on.

You may have to chop your ambitions into bite-
size pieces rather than tackling everything at
once, but any way you slice it, there's a price
to pay and only you can determine if it's worth
it. This is your script and your life. Write it
any way you would like.

S.O.B's don't dwell on failures. It doesn't
matter what won't work-only what does. They
excel on results and know that discipline and
persistence carries them through. I know those
two traits have saved my "butt" more times than I
care to remember.

It only takes one success to wipe out a whole lot
of nonsuccesses. Can you keep on trying? I'm
sure you can. However if you don't, 12 months
from now, it will still be a year later and
nothing will have been accomplished. Why waste
your life living someone else's blueprint?
