What NOT to Buy Your Boyfriend
 by: Janette Vince

There are plenty of places you can go when you need to find some ideas on what to buy your boyfriend for the holidays. Everybody has an opinion about what makes the perfect gift. This article is different though. It’s going to advise you on what NOT to buy your boyfriend this season.

Whether or not you take this advice is your decision. You know your boyfriend better than anybody else (hopefully). And I’m sure you know just how many of his buttons you can push before you push him to the limit! Here goes.

Monogrammed towels

Monogrammed towels are an absolute no-no. If it’s your intention to move in together or to get married, you probably are already giving out enough “hints” to this effect. He’s not going to appreciate having yet one more reminder of the goal which right now, only you are striving to achieve. If you do think giving him monogrammed towels is all right, don’t spend a lot of money on them. You can almost guarantee that those towels are what he’ll be using as rags when he’s out working in the garage.

Baby clothing

NEVER buy your boyfriend baby clothing unless you are trying to end his life prematurely. Buying baby clothing might be something you do totally innocently like when it’s your way of suggesting that “Wouldn’t it be nice if one day…” But to a guy, baby clothing suggests just one thing: That 1 + 1 is soon going to make 3 – period. Boyfriends will never think the same way that girlfriends do. It hasn’t happened yet and it isn’t going to happen anytime soon. If you feel the need, find another way to bring up the subject!

Books that tell him how to be a better man or a better partner

There isn’t a boyfriend around who will appreciate his significant other behaving like his mother. He has one already. CDs, tapes and seminars are off-limits too. Listen up. When he’s looking for advice, he’ll get his “tips” from his guy-friends. And remember that no matter how hard you try, your boyfriend isn’t going to change until HE feels the need to change. Anyone involved in a relationship with a guy should realize that this might not ever happen!

The latest video game

This is the worst gift you can give your boyfriend unless you like playing them too. If you don’t play, your boyfriend will spend more quality time playing the video game alone or with his guy friends than he will ever spend with you – guaranteed. Never willingly give your boyfriend a reason NOT to spend time with you. If you feel like wasting that much money, you’re better off wasting it on yourself!

Movies and music that appeal to YOU

Don’t think that your boyfriend will enjoy watching those deep, emotional “chick flicks” or listening to those heart-plucking, struggling-woman, ballads with you. Trust me – he’d much rather be in the other room playing video games.

A house or a car

These aren’t the types of holiday gifts most people are going to buy for their boyfriends during the holidays or any time of year. But there are some people out there who are more fortunate than the rest of us. They’ll think they’re being REALLY nice by surprising their boyfriends with such extravagant gifts, and they probably won’t be wrong about that. But since there’s no way of ensuring the relationship’s going to last into infinity, find something else to give your boyfriend. If you insist, just be sure that it’s your name on the title AND that you are willing to make all of the payments in full for as long as necessary.

Cologne that your former boyfriend used to wear

No matter how much you like the cologne and no matter how good it smells on your new boyfriend, you should never get your new beau the same cologne you used to sniff on your old boyfriend. You wouldn’t want to wear the same perfume his old girlfriend used to wear, would you? Didn’t think so. While we’re on the subject, it’s not a good idea for you to get your new boyfriend any type of gift that you used to get for your old boyfriend. It’s time to start over with new memories.

Now that you know some gifts you should never get your boyfriend for the holidays or any time of year, here are a few unique gift ideas that he’d probably appreciate:

· A tank ride – yes, as in a real, life-sized military vehicle
· A remote control car, helicopter, motorcycle or Hummer
· Aeorbatic flying lessons
· A day racing cars
· Lessons for a sport he’d like to try

Now those are the types of gifts men appreciate!
