White Hat Plus Black Hat Equals Grey Hat SEO

SEO or search engine optimization is one of the many popular Internet marketing techniques used today. Part of its popularity lies with its techniques. Unlike SEM or search engine marketing which deals with paid inclusion, SEO involves the use of techniques that improves the volume or quality of traffic to a web site from search engines via "natural" or un-paid search results.

SEO also gained notoriety because of its techniques. According to many SEO consultants, such as those from SEO Philippines companies, SEO techniques are divided into two different categories; the one which is recommended by search engines while the other is not. These are called as the white hat SEO and the black hat SEO.

White Hat and Black Hat SEO

The terms white hat and black hat in SEO were inspired by old western movies in which the good guys would wear white hats white the bad guys would wear black hats. White hat SEO involves the use of techniques which is usually recommended by search engines. According to many SEO Philippines specialists, a technique is determined as a white hat if it conforms with search engine guidelines and does not manipulate search engines into thinking that this website is legitimate.

Black hat SEO techniques, on the other hand, involves the use of deception. Black hat SEO is also known in industry as spamdexing. One popular example spamdexing or black hat SEO is hidding text behind images or colored similar to its background. According to many professionals, black hat SEO can give faster results compared to that of white hat. However, these results are usually temporary, and that if caught, websites would be penalized or banned from a search engine.

Grey Hat SEO

Other than the white hat and the black hat SEO techniques, there have also been techniques which is categorized as a grey hat technique. So what is a grey hat SEO? Grey hat SEO involves techniques which is considered as both white hat and black hat. According to many SEO Philippines experts, these techniques are good, but may involve some risks. One popular example is link buying.

Link buying involves purchasing links from high profile websites. The advantage of this is that it could provide quality traffic to a website, however, webmasters would have to pay for this links, which could cost a lot. There is also a risk involved in this. There have been rumors that new websites with high quality links are usually removed in Google's indexes. This is because of the understanding that this website have been buying links from other websites which caused its sudden rise in Google's indexes.
