Adding A Friendly Face Picture Turning Your Website Into A Human
 by: Chris Satchwell

Making your website user friendly and good looking is key to its success, you may have the best product in the world and the website may have very good SEO, but a bad looking poorly designed website will mean you won’t maximize your sites potential. This article will give you one way to make your website more human-friendly.

It is important for your website to use a small collection of colours and be easy on the eye so the user doesn’t have to strain when looking at the screen. Another important part of your design to compliment this is to give your website a face, by this it simply means a picture of a human, even if its only small.

Humans are social things and we like to see other humans. Computers are a bit like robots which means if we spend a long time on them without seeing face we can begin to feel a bit of key - just think about how you feel after you’ve typed an essay for hours onto your computer. The same is true for when surfing the web, if all websites were just writing and colours then we wouldn’t spend half as long as we do online. The simple fact is that we like to see and interact with others humans, its natural and is just built into us, you don’t realize it but its just the way it is.

The idea when designing your website is to work with this fact I.E include photos of real people on your pages. This will mean the website feels more real, and not just a robot that you are working with, generally this means the user will sub-consciously enjoy being on the site more than if there wasn’t a friendly face.

So, how is it best to give your design a human feel. Although we like to see other faces this doesn’t mean you should just put random faces across your website, but you should integrate relevant pictures whenever possible, you can find many great photos at http://www.freestockimages.net. Putting a smiling pretty face on your contact page is always a start, this makes it feel like they are actually contacting a person instead of just sending an e-mail into cyberspace. If you sell laptops you may want to have a picture of a smiling smart person using a laptop, preferably a small picture on every page (above your navigation bar or somewhere like that). Its also good to have a picture of a group of people on your testimonial page, so users are able to put testimonials with real people giving it more of a natural human communication feel.

Every website owner has the ability to put pictures onto their web pages. Every website gets used by humans so should have photos of humans on them. The fact is that humans like to interact with humans, so put pictures onto your website like explained above and you may find your site has more of a ‘real’ feeling and visitors will stay just that little bit longer.
