But there are some dangers you may not have been aware of. Before you buy novelty contact lenses, see a doctor and arm yourself with information about the risks involved. Novelty contact lenses are lenses with various designs printed on them. They were a Halloween trend that spread quickly. Soon people began to wear them for different occasions. These lenses were available anywhere from novelty markets and nail salons, to the Internet. They were sold as “one size fits all”. This was dangerous assumption. In fact, the FDA recently banned the sale of lenses produced in other countries People began to get infections because of the one size fits all approach, some even lost their sight.The cornea was scrapped and then infected. In other cases, the lenses were kept in solutions for too a long period and then reused. If you want a pair of novelty lenses, go to an ophthalmologist. You will be fitted for an extended wear pair for your eyes. When you get your contacts the doctor would give you instructions on how to keep them clean. Generally, they should be taken care of as you would any other contact lenses. Make sure you follow your doctor’s instructions because there are other costs involved such as having to take time off work to see the doctor and the costs of the bills after the fact. There is also a chance you may infect others. Even if you don’t share your contacts with others, they may still be infected with your germs.
