A Much Needed Tip On How To Stay Alive During An Attempted Abduction
 by: Deborah Sexton

Though this is an unusual article for the self improvement section it is a much needed article.

Though it is a very old case I just recently heard the sad story about Shari, a high school student who was abducted at gun point while retrieving the family mail from the mail box outside her home in South Carolina in 1985. Her abductor taunted the family with phone calls pretending Shari was still alive to buy himself time. He knew the longer it took to find her the less evidence would remain to convict him.

The very small word “If” has such deep meaning. If only I had, If only I had not.

Thoughts of “IF” can bring such deep feelings of sorrow.

We are taught in a robbery to not fight. Give up all the robber asks for. Don't be a hero. Though this is still true in these particular cases it is not true for an abduction.

We must give our loved ones a weapon, a way to fight for ourselves. That weapon is knowledge. Knowing what to do can mean the difference between life and death.

But what is it Shari could have done to help herself or at least try ? After all he had a gun pointed at her didn't he. She was just an 18 year old girl. How could she have fought a madman ?

Think about it. Would you rather die by gun shot outside your home or in a public place in front of witnesses or be taken hostage by a madman so you can be alone and helpless knowing you're going to die eventually anyway. Knowing you will be tortured and put through agony than killed ???

The best tip I can give you to try to save your life is this. If someone says come with me or I will shoot you. Say shoot me and try to get away. Make a lot of noise and run as fast as you can. Never go with your abductor. If he is crazy enough to abduct you in daylight near your home or around potential witnesses than I wouldn't want to be alone with him.

Though this is a harsh reality we must teach those we love that some people are dangerous and teach them how to fight and how not to later think “ If only “
