Softball Hitting Tips to becoming a Powerful Hitter
 by: Marc-Olivier Dagenais

So you want to be a powerful hitter? Who doesn’t, right? Powerful hitters are those who rack up homeruns for their teams and keep the ball away from the fielders. And any softball player definitely wants to do this.

But it takes more than just your natural ability to hit the ball harder and farther. It also takes a good amount of time and effort practicing, exercising and training to get better at what you do. You may not hit as hard as you want right now, but if you keep on working on to get better, you’ll definitely get to where you want.

That’s why I’m going to help you with some effective softball hitting tips I have listed below. If you’re not doing them yet, I strongly suggest you try them out today and see the difference they make to your game.

Read on:

When hitting the ball, keep your grip loose. The tendency of most batters when hitting the ball is to choke the bat, hoping to create more power with it. But the opposite’s actually true. A looser grip on the bat actually creates more bat and ball speed than choking the bat.

Keep track of the ball. One of the hitting secrets that elite players have is their ability to anticipate their opponent’s next move. In the case of basketball, for example, good rebounders know where the ball’s most likely to go, so they position themselves in that area of the court accordingly.

In the case of hitting baseballs, good hitters somehow know how to predict the path of the ball. You can do this by learning how to track the ball’s path. See as it travels from the pitcher’s hand, going to your direction, and it will be much easier to anticipate when you should hit the ball with greater accuracy and power.

Train the muscles you use in batting. This is of course a very obvious advice if you want to become a powerful hitter. But do you know which muscles you should train in particular? That would include your shoulder muscles, your deltoids, biceps, triceps, and the muscles in your forearms and wrists.

Also when you do weight training, try to do them every other day to give your muscles the time to rest and recover. Resting your muscles also helps minimize the chances of injury in these areas.

Learn the proper hitting mechanics. If you want to be a truly good hitter, you must learn the proper hitting mechanics first. Learn to crawl before you walk, as others would often say. Why? That’s because knowing the proper mechanics helps you hit the ball efficiently without exerting a lot of effort. And when you’re swinging the bat correctly, you minimize your risk of injury.

So let’s review what I have just written above. If you want to hit the ball harder, you should work on these areas: keeping your grip on the bat loose, keep track of the ball, train your muscles you use in batting, and learn the proper hitting mechanics.

The combination of these softball hitting tips plus consistent practice will help you hit the ball harder than you do today. So keep practicing!
