The Best Birthday Party Games
 by: Dave Roth

When hosting a birthday party, it is important to have some games to play. This can be very difficult, though, because choosing games that everyone will enjoy and that are safe and appropriate for the age group of the people at the party is not always easy. Some children act much older than their actual age, and some act much younger. As a rule, however, most children seem to make friends with children that are a lot like they are. If the birthday boy or girl acts older or younger than his or her chronological age, the party host can be relatively safe in assuming that the childs friends will be similar in temperament and maturity. This can help the host to plan appropriate games.

For younger children, there are many games that can be played, such as hide-and-seek, pin the tail on the donkey, and offering a piata filled with candy for the children to take turns hitting. In todays society, however, even young children seem to be more interested in video and computer games. If a party host is offering these, he or she must make sure that they are age-appropriate and that the parents of the other children at the party do not object. Some parents do not want their children playing video games at all, and the opinion of these parents must be taken into consideration. In addition, care must be taken to have a safe environment for the children to play their games in, and they should be supervised at all times.

For children that are older, or even for young adults, there are other games that can be played. These children will likely be much more interested in video games and computer games, which are certainly acceptable as long as none of the parents of the invited individuals object if the guests are less than eighteen years old. If video games are being avoided for any reason and the weather is decent, there are many outdoor games that can be played in the backyard, such as beanbag toss, horseshoes, touch football, Frisbee, or other options. Having several games available will help to make sure that there is something for everyone to do and the birthday party is a great success.
