Friends are not optional but indispensable: It is important that first of all you understand the importance of friends in the life of your child. Friends will help your child to grow and evolve as a person. He’ll learn how to socialize and respect other person’s feelings. Since this is a bond which is not imposed on a child, but is created and nurtured by the child himself, he’ll learn how to handle relationships. When a child is accepted in the group of friends, it makes him feel important, boosts his confidence and empowers his self-esteem.

Create opportunities to make friends: Give opportunities to your child where he can interact with children of his age like take him to the park, places of friends and neighbors or make him join hobby classes. You may organize small get together at home.

Welcome your child’s friends: Give love and respect to your child's friends. Encourage him to bring his friends home. Respect their need for privacy and don't interfere in his relationships so that he can make friends for a lifetime.

Let your child choose his friends: Don't try to fix him with a studious child just because you think he'll have a positive influence on your child. Let your child form a group he feels comfortable and can relate with. Don’t ever criticize his choice of friends.

Set an example for him: If you have a relationship of fun and love with your friends, your child will also be able to experience the joys of friendship. On the other hand if you are always bickering about your friends ,then naturally friendship will hold no meaning for your child.
