A Secret to Reducing Stress
 by: James Serio

"If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9 NASB)."

When others are rude or abusive, we are naturally angry as a result. Often, this leads to uncomfortable or painful bodily sensations that can linger on. Jesus explained why.

"And his lord, moved with anger, handed him over to the torturers until he should repay all that was owed him. My heavenly Father will also do the same to you, if each of you does not forgive his brother from your heart (Matthew 18:34-35 NASB)."

OK, I know. You've heard me say the same thing a million times before. I know that you already know this. But there's one thing that may be new to you.

All scriptures go together. The Bible also says that "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us . . ." That means that he will stop torturing us!

Every time you entertain a negative thought about another person, immediately confess the sin to God. Make a sincere effort not to repeat the sin. If you do so anyway, repeat the process. Sometimes, it may be necessary to repeatedly confess sins of unforgiveness throughout the day. As long as you're making a sincere effort, God will honor your efforts to be obedient.

To confess a sin simply means to agree with God that what you did is wrong. It is, because you did something God said not to do.

Get into the habit of confessing your sins of unforgiveness to God immediately every time you become aware of them. This is not a difficult discipline to develop. But it can yield huge dividends when it comes to reducing your anger, anxiety and depression!
