To Protect The Innocent
 by: Regina Jacques

As I told you in my story yesterday, my father retired from the Army in New York. He had been stationed there when I was simply a twinkle in my father's eye. My 3 older brothers remember living there very vividly. When asking my mom about living there, she told me about a robber snatching her purse while she was on the way to the grocery store, stealing her grocery money while she had all 3 of her little boys with her.

When we stayed there after our last tour was up in Germany, we had gone back to visit the old place they'd lived in. We were shocked to see the door was ajar as the apartment was vacant. We looked inside, saw that no one was there and that it was empty so we went in to check it out. I remember that it was like stepping back in time for my parents and my brother that was also with us at the time. There was hard wood floors, and my father showed us where a nail was still in the corner where he had nailed down their Christmas tree one year! That was pretty neat.

Well, as you see, a member of my very own family experienced a little crime in New York. Now I'm going to show you a link to see a story about a woman who got assaulted and raped, who was absolutely defenseless. Click here to read her gut wrenching story.

Personal defense products are illegal in the state of NY. Therefore, any woman who is faced with crime, if she has a stun gun or pepper spray on her, NY's law reads as follows:

New York Consolidated Law (McKinney’s) Book 39. Penal Law.

Article 265. Firearms and Other Dangerous Weapons 265.00

15-a. "Electronic dart gun" means any device designed primarily as a weapon, the purpose of which is to momentarily stun, knock out or paralyze a person by passing an electrical shock to such person by means of a dart or projectile.

15-c. "Electronic stun gun" means any device designed primarily as a weapon, the purpose of which is to momentarily stun, cause mental disorientation, knock out or paralyze a person by passing a high voltage electrical shock to such person.

Article 265.01 Criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree. A person is guilty of criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree when: (1) He possesses any firearm, electronic dart gun, electronic stun gun ***; or ***

SUMMARY: Possession is banned of Stunning Devices in New York.

It's rather mind boggling to know that pepper spray, stun guns and TASERS, that are not lethal devices to protect the innocent are illegal, however most of the hardened criminal are going to have a gun on them anyway! It just blows my mind. If you are one of the lucky ones to live in a state where self defense products are legal (click here to see the list), and you yourself, or a loved one does not carry any, please make sure you do. Mother's Day is also very quickly approaching us. What better gift to give than a life saving one. Check them out today while you are still thinking of it.

Yours In Safety,

Regina Jacques
