Creative Solutions For Priority Management At Home
 by: Sherrie Le Masurier

Identify the most harried moments in your day and devise a creative solution to get you thorough. Sometimes it comes down to a little priority management. For instance, the at home hours between returning home and eating dinner can be the most hectic, especially when you have ‘hungry’ little ones underfoot.

A creative solution would be to hire a pre-teen so you can regain a more positive frame of mind and enjoy some quality time with the kids after the dinner rush. Now that’s a good example of priority management - looking at what’s important to you and finding a way of turning a negative situation into a positive one.

It all comes down to figuring out just what is important in your life. If your family rates right up there, then it’s imperative you find ways to spend quality time with them. Sometimes with our work schedules we can’t afford quantity but with a little priority management on the family side of things, there are many creative solutions to be found.

Consider hiring the same pre-teen to entertain the kids on a Saturday when you’re trying to get your household chores done. Having someone else care for the kids when you’re busy is great way of maximizing your productivity. Not only will you be within reach if needed, but you’ll also be able to complete your tasks much quicker, and free up more quality time with the kiddies. You’d also be giving a young person some valuable experience and hopefully along the way, training yourself a future babysitter.

Or, you may want to hire someone to run errands for you. Grocery shopping is a biggie for most people. Having a capable person to handle this and other dreaded chores can free up a few hours a month from your busy schedule. Also look into what can be ordered online and delivered free or for a nominal charge.

While it’s true not everyone can afford the luxury of a regular student helper not to mention, a full time housekeeper but you may be able to pay for smaller services. Sending out shirts to the laundry, hiring a housecleaning service on an occasional basis, getting a neighbourhood kid to mow the lawn or wash the windows are all good solutions to lightening your load.
