Conducting Character Education Programs in Schools

People learn good habits of thought and deed through character education thus enabling them to live and work together harmoniously. Character education teaches kids to live positively among their families, friends and communities. A kid who is instilled with these core values through character education helps them to grow into a balanced and dutiful citizen. These instilled values also focus on respect, justice, virtue, and character development. Since school being a second home for children during their formative years these programs can positively and successfully shape up a child’s future.

Inculcating the seeds of a strong moral character in a child through such character education programs will definitely help to achieve the above discussed objective. These programs should focus on a vast and varied range of activities that will help to build effective character in kids. Kids can involve in skits, essay writing etc. They can also get involved with younger children by visiting their class rooms to discuss and talk about the morals and virtues that they have learned. These activities can definitely help children achieve overall social grooming required helping them grow up to be morally sound and responsible.

Discussions in class rooms among students are also an effective means to address moral values and virtues. This activity helps the students to discuss about specific practical situations with their teacher. During these meetings they should discuss about their feelings and other perspectives as well. Topics included in character education should be used as a reference when these discussions are being done. These meetings help them to treat each other with utmost respect and dignity.

The children involved in these character education programs should instill social skills in other students with whom they are interacting and teach them about life skills. Learning these skills will eventually assist them to face various situations with an approach which will be balanced instead of getting confused on what to do. There are several character education programs that bring about similar positive behavioral development in a child. These character education programs will enable a child to be mature and a more socially responsible person.

There programs that are being held in schools are uniform and are taught in the same manner to all the students. These activities, discussed above which are included in character education can only be taught at schools as parents may not have sufficient knowledge about the right techniques that should be used. Hence this responsibility to conduct such programs should be shared among teachers and parents. Also, other members of the community should also take such responsibility as children are indeed the future of any society.
